About Us
Cafe’ Fish is now open for it’s 17th season. Doesn’t time fly?
Owned and run by cousins Jane Gill and Liz McGougan, who were brought up side by side on the shores of the famous Loch Fyne in the fishing village of Tarbert. Most of their working lives have been spent in the catering trade, starting off in the family’s Anchor Hotel, Tarbert specialising in fresh Lochfyne seafood in the early 80′s, with Liz picking up coveted awards in the West End of Glasgow. Now they’re based in another Argyll fishing community, Tobermory on the island of Mull. The Cafe’ is wonderfully appointed on the upper floor of the Calmac Pier with spectacular views over Tobermory Bay to Calve island and the Sound of Mull. From the alfresco terrace you can catch an amazing sunset and watch a selection of fresh seafood en route from the rugged coastal waters around Mull straight to your plate two hours later.
“We have our own fishing boat - The Highlander - so our langoustines, lobster and squat lobster are landed daily at 4pm. Local boats land us other treasures including monkfish, dover sole, cod, halibut, john dory, haddock, plaice, scallops and squid. Our oysters and crabs come from down the road in Croig, our mussels from nearby Inverlussa. Our smoked salmon come from the Tobermory Fish Company , plump and juicy scallops from Isle of Mull Scallops, smoked mackerel, and corn-fed chicken come from Letterfindlay Food Company in the foothills of Ben Nevis and our lean flavoursome steak come from highland cows, born and bred locally at Glengorm Castle.
Our packed specials board changes daily depending what the sea throws up at us. We also stock a wide range of Scottish beers, Mull malt whisky, cheese, beef and biscuits as well as a fine selection of wines and organic fruit juices.
We take care to use fresh, natural ingredients. We bake our own granary bread, and desserts. Our fish and shellfish is offered either served simply seasoned and grilled, with a wedge of lemon. Or be adventurous and try one of our innovative specials from the ever changing specials board. Our ethos is :- "The freshest produce and gentle cooking result in fabulous flavour”.
