about us

Cafe’ Fish is now open for it’s 7th season.  Doesn’t time fly?   Started in 2004 by sisters Carolyn and Lindsay McDonald, followed by sister Jane and cousin Liz McGougan.  All  four were brought up side by side on the shores of the famous Loch Fyne in the fishing village of Tarbert.   Most of their working lives have been spent in the catering trade,  starting off in the family’s Anchor Hotel, Tarbert specialising in fresh Lochfyne seafood in the early 80′s,  with Liz recently picking up coveted awards in the West End of Glasgow.  Now they’re based in another Argyll fishing community, Tobermory on the island of Mull.  The Cafe’ is wonderfully appointed on the upper floor of the Calmac Pier with spectacular views over Tobermory Bay to Calve island and the Sound of Mull.  From the alfresco terrace you can catch an amazing sunset and watch a selection of fresh seafood en route from the rugged coastal waters around Mull straight to your plate two hours later.

“We have our own fishing boat so our langoustines, lobster and squat lobster are landed daily at 4pm.  Local boats land us other treasures including monkfish, dover sole, cod, halibut, john dory, haddock, plaice, scallops and squid.  Our oysters and crabs come from down the road in Croig, our mussels from nearby Inverlussa.  Our smoked salmon, smoked mackerel, corn-fed chicken and beef come from Letterfindlay.  The packed specials board changes daily depending what the sea throws up at us.  We also stock a wide range of Isle of Mull beers,  Mull cheese, carefully selected wines and organic fruit juices.

We take care to use fresh, natural ingredients. We bake our own granary bread, scones and desserts.  Our fish is mostly served simply seasoned and grilled, with a wedge of lemon. We don’t believe in hiding the flavour with sauces:- Fresh produce, simple cooking, fabulous flavour”.
